According to Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 11:50 am, on April 16 a traffic stop was conducted on 10th Street and I Avenue in Douglas.
During the traffic stop three subjects were detained and ultimately charged for several pounds of marijuana which was found inside of the vehicle.
Capas said as a result of the traffic stop, a search warrant was obtained for a residence in the 800 block of 21st Street in Douglas. During the search which was conducted by Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Border Alliance Group with the assistance of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a long rifle was recovered that had previously been reported stolen along with more marijuana and other items of evidence.
The total weight of marijuana from these cases is 92.25 pounds. The investigation is being continued by the Border Alliance Group and more arrests are pending.
The investigation resulted in the arrests of Karla Robles, 36, of Pirtleville, Sandra Kessinger, 66, of Tucson, and Jesus Galaz Romero, 19, of Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico. Each suspect was arrested on one count of transportation of marijuana and two counts of possession of marijuana.
Robles and Kessinger are being held in the Cochise County Jail on bonds of $100,000 each, which Romero is being held without bond.
The investigation is being continued by the Border Alliance Group and more arrests are pending, Capas said.
