Library and World Book Night U.S. to give away free books

The Douglas Public Library and the Friends of the Douglas Public Library are proud to announce a partnership with the World Book Night U.S. Campaign to give away half a million free, specially printed books across America. And Douglas will be one of 5,000 towns and cities across America to do so on Monday, April 23 at the Library.

The library staff has created a lovely display of many of the 30 titles being distributed nationally, in preparation for the givers going out into the community on April 23. A total of 80 books will be distributed in Douglas, which includes 20 copies each of The Stand by Stephen King; Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card; Little Bee by Chris Cleave; and The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold. The books will be available all day at the Library, located at 560 10th St.

World Book Night U.S. is an ambitious campaign to give away half a million free, specially printed books across America. Volunteer book lovers will help promote reading by going into their communities and handing out free copies of a book they enjoy to new or light readers, reaching them especially in underserved places – and even some fun spots.

The volunteers will be picking up their books at The Douglas Public Library in order to share them in locations as diverse as The Gadsden Hotel, CCHCI's Pediatric Center, Caffenio Coffe Shop, and more.
