Both drivers were airlifted to nearby hospitals where one was treated and released while the other was admitted for his injuries.
DPS officials said the highway was reopened shortly before 8 a.m.
In a separate accident Friday morning a Dept. of Corrections Officer from Douglas was killed following a single vehicle accident near Nogales.
According to the Sierra Vista Herald, Kenneth L. Wilson, Jr., 47, was pronounced dead at the scene after authorities responded to milepost 7.9 on Highway 82, about eight miles east of Nogales.
Wilson, a Lieutenant with the D.O.C. Douglas Prison for the past 18 years, was driving east on the highway in a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a right-of-way fence, and continued southeast off-road until colliding with a dirt berm, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Based on information received from family members, it is believed that Wilson, who lived in Sierra Vista was the only occupant of the pickup, may have suffered from some sort of medical condition prior to the incident, DPS Spokesman Officer Raul Molina told the Herald last Friday.
