He continued working for Phelps Dodge until they shut down operations in Bisbee, and then he went to work for Magma Copper Company in San Manuel, where he retired at the age of 67. At retirement he chose to live a life dedicated to his family and friends, he was a person that could be counted on at any time, be it whatever the need. He faithfully served as an usher at his beloved St. Patrick’s Church, as well as delivering for the program Meals on Wheels until the program terminated. He also lived for his grandchildren, spoiling them in every way possible. At a very young age he took to the love of sports, especially that of Basketball. He played for a team in Agua Prieta, Sonora in 1958 winning a state championship game. That love for sports has been carried down to his children and grandchildren.
Ernesto was preceded in death by his parents Nefa and Eustaquio, his beloved wife of 43 years Àgueda, his siblings, Humberto, Maria Romero, Eustaquio “El Mono” and Manuel “El Bebe”, and his nephews Rudy Romero and Ruben Orozco.
He is survived by his children Lilia (Arturo) Jimenez, Ernesto Jr. (Hermelinda), and Michael Anthony (Francisca) Durazo. His grandchildren Arturo “AJ” Jimenez, Robert Jimenez, Yvette Maria Durazo, Yvonne Maria Durazo, Jaime Jesus Lara, Yvianca Margarita Durazo, Melissa Durazo, Johanna Maria Jimenez and Michael Anthony Durazo, Jr., his sisters Amelia Figueroa of Rancho Cucamonga, CA and Emma Orosco of Sierra Vista, AZ and various nieces and nephews, all whom he loved dearly.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Brown Page Mortuary Chapel in Douglas, AZ. A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. with Father Gilbert Malu officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
He leaves a great void in our hearts, but we are certain that we have another angel watching over us from heaven.
With lots of love and respect.
