Lady Bulldogs have win streak snapped by Cienega

The Douglas Lady Bulldogs took two of three games last week beating Bisbee and Tombstone before falling to Cienega on Thursday

The two wins give Coach Abe Grijalva 295 career wins with seven games left in the Lady Bulldogs regular season.

The Lady Bulldogs began the week beating Bisbee 12-5 on March 27..

Sydnea Estrella was the winning pitcher giving up no runs off no hits while fanning three in the four innings she was in the circle.

Samantha Gonzales threw in relief. She was tagged for five runs off two hits and four walks before yielding way to Jennifer Montoya who came in and closed out the game.

Douglas led 7-0 going into the top of the fourth when Bisbee rallied for five runs pulling within two.

The Lady Bulldogs responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning before closing out with two runs in the sixth.

Nythzia Machado and Victoria Mariscal each hit 2 for 5 this game while Danae Meza Liz Rodriguez were each 1 for 4.

On Wednesday, March 28, the Lady Bulldogs mercy ruled the Tombstone Lady Yellow jackets 15-3.

Montoya was the winning pitcher giving up three runs off three hits while fanning six in four innings. Gonzales threw one inning in relief and allowed a hit while fanning two.

Mariscal hit 2 for 4 this game with a double and a home run, her eighth of the season. Andrea Lugo was also 2 for 4 and Karina Avechuco was 3 for 4.

On Thursday Douglas hosted Empire who was coached by former U of A softball player Laura Espinosa.

Empire was all over Douglas shutting out the Lady Bulldogs 10-0 in six innings.

Empire broke a scoreless game open with a five run third which was followed by a run in the fifth and four in the sixth.

Estrella was the losing pitcher this game giving up six runs off 11 hits while fanning four and walking two.

Montoya threw one inning in relief and was tagged for four runs off six hits.

Douglas had just three hits in the game. Machado, Marsical and Mishell Quinonez each had hits with Mariscal and Quinonez each having doubles.

Douglas, 18-7, has just two games this week. The Lady Bulldogs host Willcox today and will be at Bisbee on Thursday.
