Gallery opens its doors to Ray Borane Students

Ray Borane Middle School Art students presented several art pieces at the Douglas Art Gallery to begin a new space called the Youth Corner at the Gallery, in which, students from elementary and middle school will be able to display their talent.

As explained by Art teacher for RBMS, Rory Baumgartner, the display shows the abilities developed by the kids through art and it clearly shows that as the rest of the classes, the art class has certain objectives to accomplish to contribute to the student’s growth.

“They have to learn to use tools, techniques and materials correctly,” Baumgartner said. “We also have to learn to make connections between art and other curricular areas; the kids need to go through certain discussion to learn the facts of the image that they are going to paint or draw and add it to the drama of the picture.”

Baumgartner said to be proud of the students that never lose their focus on the class and develop the skills to express what they see, listen and experience through the art class.

“I have a deep admiration, appreciation and respect for the kids who can stay with the project from start to the end, because these take a great deal of concentration,” he said.

The art of Ray Borane students will remain at the Gallery this week for its display.

May’s exhibit ready to go

The Douglas Art Association will begin its new exhibit “Members Show” for the month of May with an opening reception on Friday, May 4, from 3-5 p.m.

The artwork of 28 local and regional artists will be open for the public for the entire month.
