Lady Bulldogs third at Bisbee Invitational

The Douglas Lady Bulldogs track team came in third Saturday at the Bisbee Invitational.

Ten teams competed in the daylong event.

Safford was first with 200 points. Sahuarita was second with 124.5 and Douglas third with 74. Bisbee was fourth with 69 and Benson fifth with 66.

Barbara Jordan finished fifth and sixth in the 100 and 200-meters turning in times of 13.14 and 27.78 seconds.

Yadirah Cuevas ran the 400 meters for only the second time this season and she came in second finishing with a time of 1:08. Marilyn Grijalva was fourth one second back at 1:09.

Cuevas finished third in the triple jump with a jump of 27’6”.

Laura Blair and Karla Loretto were fifth and sixth respectively in the 800 meters finishing with times of 2:46 and 2:50.

Angelica Trejo finished fourth in the 1600 finishing with a time of 6:23.

Kayla Fields finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles turning in a time of 19.53 and she was third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.73. Fields’ Coach Donna Savill said she was less than a second behind the No. 2 ranked runner in the state this race.

Emily Castillo was sixth in the discus with a throw of 84’7”.

Douglas’ 4x100 relay team of Parra, Jordan, Cuevas and Fields finished in second place with a time of 53.57.

The 4x800 relay team of Loretto, Trejo, Blair and Grijalva turned in a personal best time of 11:24 and the 4x400 relay team of Jordan, Fields, Grijalva and Kianna Ross also came in second with a time of 4:31.

Coach Savill said right now her team is holding steady which what she wants them to do.

“We’re still seeing good marks,” she said. “We don’t want them to peak too soon.”

The coach said gradually her team is moving up the state qualifying list.
