For the 49th consecutive year, the Douglas Association for Retarded Citizens will held its Mother’s Day Cake Auction on Sunday, May 13 starting at 1 p.m. at the Gadsden Hotel.

The Cake Auction’s purpose is to raise money to help people with disabilities living in the community. The Douglas ARC has made the difference in these people’s lives through fundraisers like the auction by offering them programs like Meals on Wheels, the Special Olympics, and a very complete Job Program to teach them how to be self-sustained.

Longtime Douglas resident Mary Maza has been chosen to be this year’s Douglas ARC Mother’s Day Cake Auction dedicatee.

Last year’s auction brought in a total of $20,163 and had 154 cakes to sale. The highest bid was made by Greg Heisey, who paid $350 for Vicky Merrit’s New York Cheesecake.

The auction will be broadcasted live on KDAP Radio 96.5 FM.
