Modesto “Tito” T. Arciniega, Jr.

Our most merciful and loving God welcomed our beloved father, brother, tio, tata and friend. He departed peacefully at the Brookfield Healthcare Center, Los Angeles, CA in the arms of his loving family, on May 1, 2012, after a long and enduring illness.



Tito was born November 16, 1932 to Modesto M. and Luisa T. Arciniega of Douglas, AZ. He attended public school and worked at Kline Furniture until his induction into the U.S. Army in 1952. He served in Korea as a Browning automatic rifle (BAR) gunner and was honorably discharged in 1954. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He also earned the expert rifleman insignia. He was extremely proud to have served in the Army. He was a great patriot who loved his family and our great country. He returned to Douglas and was employed by Phelps Dodge Copper Company as an underground miner. He later moved to Los Angeles, CA. where he began his career as a truck driver, driving coast to coast for over forty years. He received several awards for his safe driving record. Tito was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his father Modesto M, mother Luisa T. older siblings, Santiago (1929), Florencio, Trini Alvarez, Antonio, and Alvina Hoy. He is survived by his daughter Teresa C. Cummings (Danny), sons Modesto M. III (Lanette) and Mark R. He is also survived by his brother Santiago T. (Nellie), his sister Paula DeRidder and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Tito has been blessed with 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. We will miss you dearly. Adios Tito, our beloved “Tomahawk Moe.”

A Rosary will be recited by Deacon Gonzales in joyous celebration at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday May 9, 2012 at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel, Douglas, AZ. A Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at 10:00 A.M. on May 10, 2012 at Sacred Heart Church (en el barrio) with Father G. Malu officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors executed by the American Legion Post 11 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Fort Huachuca.

Pallbearers who will serve are Modesto M. Arciniega III, Angela M. Arciniega, Christine Arciniega, Melissa M. Arciniega, Angel A. Arciniega and Nathanuel J. Cummings Honorary Pallbearers will be Teresa C. Cummings, Mark R. Arciniega, Santiago T. Arciniega, Sr., Santiago T. Arciniega, Jr., Francisco Arciniega, Geronimo Arciniega and Lanette Arciniega.
