In their constant effort to keep students informed about fire safety and fire prevention, the Douglas Fire Department made a visit to Liberty Traditional Saddleback Charter School on Wednesday, April 11 to offer a Fire Prevention Talk to students and teachers.

Kids from Kindergarten through fourth grade learned from the firefighters about ways to stay safe in the case of a fire at home, school or any given place. Recommendations included always to call 911 if they see or find themselves in a fire; in case of a fire, get out of the house or school by crawling near the walls to avoid the smoke; and have a family plan, in which the family needs to include a meeting place far away from the fire. They also recommended students to learn their home address to let the firefighters get to the scene faster when they call 911.

Lastly, firefighters showed kids ways to prevent a fire, such as never play with matches and do not get near of a stove when parents are cooking, in order to avoid any skin burn or an accident.

The Fire Department showed their appreciation to students for their good behavior during the Fire Prevention Talk by allowing the two top-class students of each grade to take a ride in their fire truck.
