Consulate welcomes new Deputy Consul

The Mexican Consulate in Douglas has appointed Oscar Francisco Holguin as the new Deputy Consul in Douglas this month, after former Deputy Consul Raul Grijalva was transferred to another location in Texas.

Holguin will stand in for Consul Oscar De La Torre and his functions in cases when it is needed and he will be in charge of the Department of Protection for the Mexican in the U.S.

Before becoming the new Deputy Consul in Douglas, Holguin was working at the General Department of Mexicans Abroad as well as the Legal Consultancy Department both in Mexico City.

As part of his duties locally, the deputy consul will seek to reinforce the efforts of expand the Consulate’s services to provide a wider and better service to the Mexican in the U.S. and to the Douglas’ community.

“The Consulate in Douglas has grown tremendously in the past five years and more responsibilities have come with this expansion,” he said. “So our mission here is to keep providing a good service to our nationals, but also we wish to strengthen the relationship between both cities through cultural activities that anyone, being American or Mexican can enjoy.”

Holguin remarked it is very important for them as a Consulate in the U.S. to create this type of bond to let everybody know about the richness of the Mexican Culture and let them have a global vision about Mexico, and not just about border issues.
