Austreberto Gastelum passed away May 15th, 2012 at his home in Douglas.



Mr. Gastelum was born April 19th, 1921 in Magdalena, Sonora, Mexico. He had been a Douglas resident for the past 10 years.

Mr. Gastelum was preceded in death by his son Rene Gastelum and his parents, Juan de Dios Gastelum and Angeles Rodriquez.

Surviving are his wife Amelia Gastelum, his son Jose Angel (Connie) Gastelum, his daughter Norma Elvia Gastelum, his grandchildren Rene (Jazmin) Gastelum, Veronica (Eddie) Gracia, Clifford L. Tanner, Edward T. Tanner, Angelica E. Gastelum, Jose A. Gastelum Jr., 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.

A Rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18th, 2012 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church. A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church on Saturday, May 19th, 2012 with Father Jesus Alejandro Perez officiating. Pallbearers who served were: Rene Gastelum, Jose A. Gastelum Jr., Heriberto Gracia, Edward T. Tanner, Juan Rascon, and J. Cesar Campa.

According to his wishes, Mr. Gastelum will be cremated and his cremains taken to Hermosillo, Sonora, where they will be joined with his son Rene.
