First, get ready for the Summer Book Sale, which is scheduled for Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2, in the conference room at the Library, located at 560 10th Street.
Members can attend the special preview night on Thursday, May 31, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Membership forms will be available during the preview night sale.
Proceeds from the book sales benefit many library activities, particularly those planned each year for children and teens as part of the Summer Reading Program. Funds from the sales also support the Adult Book Discussion Group and other activities throughout the year.
Then, the Friends of the Douglas Library will be offering the 2012 Summer Reading Program, in which The theme is Dream Big Arizona; presenting the adventures of Arizona and celebrating our Centennial and combining that with the National theme of “Dream Big”,promoting following your goals and dreams to be your best.
This is a free program designed to celebrate reading, education, arts, sciences and fun. There will be multiple programs, as well as some fascinating entertainers for all ages during the months of June and July.

Programs taking place at the Library are as follows:
From June 4-July 19, Family/pre-Kinder, Thursdays 10:15-11:30 a.m.; Youths ages 5-9, Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. and Youths ages 9-13, Mondays and Wednesdays from 3-5 p.m.
From June 26-July 19, Teen Nights ages 13-18, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-8 p.m.
Then, the Library will be presenting Juggler James Reid on June 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Castro Park on 10th St.
Reid has entertained audiences across the Arizona trail for the past thirty years. His program delivers big fun and big tricks like eating apples while hula hooping, big bowling ball juggling, and the flaming finale.
Fun comedy will keep all ages laughing throughout the performance, while Reid talks about some of the places he has visited, lived, and learned his tricks through the years. He has wowed audiences in venues like Glendale Glitters, Gammage Auditorium, The University Theatre at Yale, and so many more.
