Dodgers beat Yankees for top spot in DLL majors

Sole possession of first place in the Douglas Little League majors division was up for grabs May 30 when the Brown Page Mortuary Dodgers battled the Backdrop Photography Yankees at the 15th Street Park.

This was the third meeting between the two teams this season. The two pervious had been a split.

Both teams had their ace pitchers on the hill and this game proved to be a thriller as Brown Page beat Backdrop 1-0 in extra innings.

For Brown Page it was Easton Rose who started the game on the hill. He would go four and two-thirds innings, give up no runs off three hits while fanning 10 and walking four. Paquito Mendoza would come on in relief and pick up the win giving up no runs off no hits, one walk and four strikeouts in two and third innings.

Backdrop had Zaylan Aleman who had thrown two no-hitters in the last three weeks.

Aleman threw four and two-thirds innings, fanning eight. Diego Saldate threw two innings in relief and took the loss despite fanning five.

This game was scoreless for the first six innings. Both teams had chances to score but defensive plays by the opposing team prevented that from happening.

Deadlocked at 0-0 at the end of six complete the game moved to the seventh.

In the top of the seventh the Dodgers had some key catches made by first baseman Cesar Valencia and right fielder Robbie Young that kept the Yankees of base.

In the bottom of the seventh Rose got on base and quickly advanced to third. With two outs and the bags full, Ruiz got a hit by the Backdrop infield allowing Rose to run home with the winning run.

Ruiz hit 3 for 3 this game for the Dodgers while Alek Samaniego and Rose each were 1 for 4 with Rose having a double. Alonso Tapia was 1 for 2.

For the Yankees Sammy Valenzuela hit 2-3 and Alex Vera Galaz, Alex Duarte and Alonso Pena each had one hit.
