ELFRIDA - For their outstanding GPA and academic grades, leadership skills, and commitment toward the groups they were involved to, Breanna Watkins, Cassandra Jane Cornforth and Jace Luzania have been chosen as Valedictorians for Valley Union High School’s Class of 2012.

Area Firefighters battle structure fire
Crews from the Douglas Fire Department responded with two trucks and a half dozen firefighters to a structure fire shortly before noon Monday, in the 2300 block of Rogers Ave. The fire was reported by a nearby neighbor, the structure was full of bees, which were spayed with foam killing them. It was contained within a matter of minutes. Both CCSO and DPD where at the scene to assist. The cause of fire is unknown and remains under investigation.

The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) announced that Douglas High School student Julian Gonzalez has been selected for membership. The announcement was made by NSHSS Founder and Chairman Claes Nobel, a senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes.
