DFD gets its Aerial Ladder Truck

With a Special Mayor and Council Meeting held on June 14, newly elected Mayor Danny Ortega Jr. and the Douglas City Council approved a bid proposal submitted by Hughes Fire Equipment for the purchase of an Aerial Ladder Truck for the Douglas Fire Department in the amount of $1,050,059.79.

DFD Chief Mario Novoa and the majority of the firefighters were present at the meeting to show their support to the decision made by Mayor and Council.

Novoa thanked Mayor and Council for the approval and said the Fire Department’s doors will always be open for them in case they wish to know more about the services the new truck will provide.

The City of Douglas will incur in a lease/purchase agreement with Hughes for 8-10 years and it is expected that the first payment will be $40,000 in Fiscal Year 2013.

Also at the meeting, City Manager Curtis Shook was a honored with the City of Douglas Employee Service Award for five years of dedicated service to the City.

In other actions, Mayor and Council approved:

Discussion/decision on approval of second reading of ordinance no. 12-1010, an ordinance of the Mayor and Council of the City of Douglas, Cochise County, Arizona, amending ordinance no. 08-921 and relating to title 12 of the city of Douglas Municipal Code pertaining to golf course operations by amending sections 12.60.010, 12.60.020, 12.60.030, and 12.60.032, 12.60.035, 12.60.036, 12.60.040; establishing severability of components of ordinance; and establishing an effective date thereof. Motion passed by a vote of 7-0.

Discussion/decision on approval of resolution no. 12-887, a resolution of the Mayor and Council of the City of Douglas, Cochise County, Arizona, adopting the tentative estimates of the amount required for the public expense of the city of douglas for the fiscal year 2012-2013; adopting a tentative budget; setting forth the receipts and expenditures; the amount proposed to be raised by various means; and giving notice of the time for hearing taxpayers on the adoption of the final budget; and for fixing the property tax levy. Motion passed by a vote of 7-0 and with an amendment by a vote of 5-2 to set the City Clerk’s salary at $71,000 effective July 1, 2012.

Discussion/decision to call for and conduct an executive session under the authority of § 38-431.03 a (1) to discuss an employment matter concerning the City Manager position and under the authority of § 38-431.03 a (4) discussion or consultation with the City Attorney and instruction to the City Attorney regarding contract negotiations for the city manager position. Motion passed by a vote of 7-0.

And to the "Poor Mexican", the city budgets every year. And the Welfare check does come from the City. It is so easy complain, and yet so ready for all those hand outs, which are paid by hard and honest working citizens of Douglas. And once again you must one person who doesn't know better. "
