Former Douglas Mayor Dr. Gomez was honored earlier this month with the Tony Certosimo Award at a formal event held June 8 in Tucson.

Mayor Gomez was one of three border town mayors honored for their proven effectiveness of support and collaboration in revitalizing the border communities.

In addition to Mayor Gomez, Nogales’ Mayor Arturo Garino and San Luis’ former Mayor Juan Carlos Escamilla were also honored.

The Tony Certosimo Award commemorates the spirit of the Arizona Mexico Commission’s first executive director. Mr. Certosimo’s dedication and leadership enabled the AMC to grow into the vibrant organization.

" Lets not forget that this former mayor and his cohorts cost Douglas over $10,000 on a ridiculous recall election.

These yahoos think of themselves as political powerbrokers when in reality they are just delusional halfwits.

ol Baldy is right. And furthermore, these people should pay the City back every penney! "

" This article says the honor was for proven effectiveness etc. etc.
Well were is it?! What did the former mayor do for Douglas? What collaboration? It was always 'I went here' and 'I attended this'. Well where are the benefits from all those meetings?
The last four years were a waste of time with no leadership from the Mayor's office.
And the worst of it is the self-delusion by these people. "

    " business

D o we really need an attorney? $20,00 in retro pay, 5% increase in salary to administer the golf course and restaurant for a year, put us in a hole with $350.00 consultant fee to be paid over a 5 year period. He can't handle the city business so send him out to the golf course and hire an attorney when one is needed. Makes better business sense. "

" Its common knowledge that the ex-mayor enjoyed the spotlight but the truth is that this town has just closed a period of embarrassment directly caused by this person and his polotical theater.
We are all glad and excited to be moving ahead. "

" Yeah, we get it that "Daddy Dentista" is the best and most important resident of Douglas. Despite his unethical conduct and his dirty, coniving political actions.

You don't need to submit anymore self-serving photos.

    Thanks for the memories. "
