Lions, Monkeys and Zebra’s, oh my

One of the three themes from LP’s dance studio’s recital June 9, at the Douglas High School auditorium, was the Lion King.

The DHS auditorium was filled with over 350 parents and family members all there to support the 77 girls in the program.

First on stage were all of LP’s students in their rendition of “Circle of Life” from the Lion King. The girls were dressed in lion, monkey, zebra, elephant, tiger, leopard and hyena costumes.

There were three parts to the recital with the first being the ballet which had nine routines. The second was Tap-jazz with also nine different routines and the last being Tahiti with another nine routines.

LP dance studio is owned and operated by Mariel Valenzuela had been in operation in Douglas since 2010.

Valenzuela has been dancing since the age of three, and has been an instructor for more than 12 years.

My life is my family, my daughters and my studio, Valenzuela said. My family has been very encouraging and supportive of my work, she added.

Valenzuela teaches girls from 2-24 years of age, in ballet, tap and Tahiti in her in home studio.

“My parents helped me start my studio and turned my garage into a dance studio,” she said.

She would like to thank her staff, students, and their parents for all of their support and her former dance instructor and mentor Alma Dolores Xibille.
