The Douglas Lady Bulldog and Bulldog tennis teams were honored at their year end awards banquet May 22.

Lady Bulldog tennis coach Ken Cormier said this was real special season not only because of the success on the court, but also because of the the attitude and work ethic that these young ladies exhibited every day at practice and at our matches. “Kim (Cormier), Tanya (Nunez), Argentina (Morales) and Valeria (Cordova) have played together on varsity together for four years, and have set a standard of excellence that will be difficult to match,” he said. “Erika Romero and Marissa Aguirre will be the nucleus that we'll build our team around for next year, and I believe that they have developed the leadership skills that will lead to continued success of our program.”

The Lady Bulldogs were 14-1 which was good enough to finish first in Sectionals. They lost to Phoenix in the semi-finals of the state tournament 5-2, and won the Thatcher Invitational for the first time in six years.

“We were 11-0 against teams in Cochise County, winning 97 of 99 games,” the coach said.

Marissa Aguirre playing No. 6 finished the season 18-0 in singles, Valeria Cordova No. 4 singles was 15-0, and No. 5 singles Erika Romero was also 15-0.
