Twenty-one teams playing in three separate divisions began the year with the final two playing July 2 for their division titles.

In the mini’s division the Palo Verde Stop-N-Go Dodgerettes were looking to win their third straight city championship but standing in their way was the Pink Spikes.

Aided by an unassisted triple play from Alicia Lamadrid, the coaches daughter, the Dodgerettes accomplished that feat with a 5-0 win. Yari Velasquez and Estevani Rojas were the MVP’s for the Dodgerettes.

Catalina Morales and Arianna Villalobos were the top players for the Pink Spikes.

The Dodgerettes finish the year undefeated.

The minors championship game followed as the Maddux and Sons Sparx were also looking to close out an undefeated season but standing in their way was the D-backers.

The Sparx won that game 12-1 capping off a 15-0 season. Emily Maddux was the winning pitcher. She and Alondra Lugo were the top hitters.

Luisa Fimbres was the losing pitcher for the D-backers. Fimbrs and Yanexel Espinosa were the top hitters.

The main event came in the juniors division where the top two pitchers in the league were going to face each other for the fourth time this season only this time the league championship was up for grabs as the Backdrop Photography Kryptonites were facing the Western Cattle Company Keystones.

These same two teams had played each other three times prior to the finals and the Krypotonies had won two of three. It was the Keystones who gave Backdrop its lone loss in the season finale winning 9-8 thus ending any hopes of a perfect season.

This game proved to be as exciting as expected as the Backdrop Kryptonites came away with a 6-2 win finishing the year 19-1; two runs shy of being 20-0.

Backdrop scored a run in the top of the second and then rallied for five in the third taking a 6-0 lead.

The Keystones scored once in the bottom of the third and once again in the fourth.

Yessika “Keka” Galaz was the winning pitcher giving up two runs off three hits while walking one and fanning five.

Ariela Noriega was the losing pitcher for the Keystones. She also hit 2 for 2 in the game while Sasha Matty was 1 for 2.

Annie Cisneros, Jenessa Salazar and Galaz each hit 2 for 3 for Backdrop with Cisneros having an RBI. Aileen Luna was 1 for 2 with 3 RBIs, Sofia Martinez was 1 for 2 and Andrea Cruz was 1 for 4.

“The girls played their best and worked very well together,” Kryptonite Coach Jessica Galaz said afterwards. “We are very proud of the way the girls played. They showed us that they wanted to win the championship. On behalf of your proud coaches and sponsor, we would like to thank the girls for a wonderful season full of great memories. We were very blessed to have such a good group of dedicated girls. Way to go champs!

"On behalf of the Kryptonites we would like to thank our proud sponsors Bruce (Whetten) and Trisha (Maldonado) from BackDrop Photography, you guys are great! Our proud parents and fans for their support during this season. You guys cheering us on made a great impact on how we as a team felt.”
