A shoplifting charge led to a felony arrest of an Agua Prieta man last week.

According to Sgt. Jose Duarte of the Douglas Police Dept. shortly before 7 p.m. July 20 DPD officers responded to a call in the Payless Shoe Store parking lot where a male subject was being detained for allegedly shoplifting from a nearby store.

The suspect, identified as Diego Alejandro Sanchez Tolano, 22, was seen running from the Stage parking lot with a new pair of tennis shoes.

Sgt. Duarte said his officers spoke with a Stage employee and determined that Tolano had indeed left the store without paying for the shoes, valued at $82.

Tolano, a U.S. citizen who lives in Mexico, later admitted to officers that he knew the shoes were stolen. A records check was conducted and revealed the suspect had an outstanding felony warrant for possession of marijuana with a bond of $10,000.

According to Sgt. Duarte Tolano had been arrested by the DPD in April for possession of marijuana but had failed to appear in court.

Tolano was charged with felony shoplifting after being arrested multiple times for shoplifting within the last five years. He was also charged with a felony warrant and is currently being held at the Cochise County jail in Bisbee.

" It's not harrassment. ITS THE TRUTH! As you can read that he's been arrested multiple times. He made a choice to be a criminal and it's time to suffer the consequences. Being poor is no excuse for crime. One down many more to go. And Thank You to enchiladas! "

" I think the guy in the picture is probably "Douglas Citizen" or maybe "Pirtlevill Man". Either way he is part of the get something for nothing crowd.

History shows when too many people have this attitude a country fails. "

" LOL, nope he doesn't work at the prison. In fact he's never even had a job and has never done anything with his life. I know this because he is a regular crosser at the port. We've caught him at least 4 times with marijuana bricks strapped to his body. But in all these cases he was never prosecuted not once (which is no surprise being that hardly anything gets prosecuted here at the POE). This guy is a complete low-life. He thought it was funny everytime he got caught. judging by his mug shot he doesn't understand the word FELONY. I bet that nice smile will go away once he is in prison where he belongs. It's nice to see something is finally being done. "
