The Douglas Mercado hosted a rocket building workshop at the Castro park on Sunday June 24thth.

Many youth built rockets with the guidance of Vern Richardson, a Douglas Mercado Vendor and Rocketry Enthusiast. The youth constructed the rockets out of paper, plastic, and tape.

The rocket building workshop was themed Blasting Produce to the Moon according to Del Cabarga, Douglas Mercado Manager, who said Vern and Tanya Duarte really put in a lot of effort to make it a great experience for the participating youth.

The rockets were launched Saturday, June 30th at the Airport Park. The youth learned to insert their engines, set up their rocket on launch pads, count down and blast off their rockets.

“I saw the youth enriched by the experience and believe the workshop increased their interest in learning more about rocketry.” Cabarga said.

All are invited to shop the Douglas Mercado to find fresh local produce as well as eggs, honey, baked goods, and artisan crafts.

The Mercado will be held every Sunday until late October at the Castro Park on 10th Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information about the Douglas Mercado or upcoming events, please call 520.236.4675 or visit the Mercado’ s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/thedouglasmercado
