School starts in Douglas tomorrow, a little earlier than many of us would like.

With that comes traffic congestion around many of the schools.

Parents are reminded to obey the 15 miles per hour posted speed limit.

Remember Douglas Police Officers will be out in force to ensure your child’s safety.

Drivers are reminded to be aware of their surroundings in and around school zones as children have a tendency to cross the street without looking.

Children are urged to cross only in designated cross walks and not in the middle of the street.

Parents please make sure to drop off and pickup your child only in designated areas; pull off to the nearest curb or sidewalk before allowing your child to exit the vehicle.

Douglas Police Officers say every year one of the biggest problems they have is parents dropping off kids in the middle of the street which creates traffic congestion.

School zones are also no passing zones and drivers are reminded it is against the law to pass other cars in a designated school zone even if their turn signal is on.

Let’s help this school year get off to a safe start.
