The Douglas Bulldogs officially began football practice Monday.

New regulations this year by the Arizona Interscholastic Association have done away with two-a-day practice sessions.

Bulldog football coach Dick Keith said teams are allowed a one-hour walk through in the morning followed by a three-hour practice in the afternoon.

“Our one-hour walk through will be for special teams and our afternoon practice will be a regular practice,” he said.

Keith anticipates starting contact Aug. 6.

The Bulldogs will host Buena in a scrimmage Thursday, Aug. 16 starting at 6 p.m. then host Empire Aug. 24 in the season opener.

Douglas will then be at Safford a week later.

The Bulldogs will then host Santa Rita and Nogales two straight weeks. The rivalry game with Bisbee will take place Oct. 19 on what will be Mom and Dads night for the DHS seniors.

The Bulldogs have been working hard all summer getting themselves ready for the start of the season.

“We’re all ready,” the coach said. “We want the contact to start.”

The freshmen and junior varsity squads kick off their season Aug. 22 against Cienega.
