DFD’s new fire truck expected to arrive soon

The Douglas Fire Department’s new aerial ladder fire truck is expected to be here by the middle of August.

Douglas Fire Chief Mario Novoa and several of his firefighters were in Phoenix last week attending the Arizona Fire Chief’s Conference apparatus Expo which was held at the University of Phoenix Stadium; home of the Arizona Cardinals.

One of the things on display was Douglas’ new fire truck.

“It was certainly a highlight of the show and the citizens and City of Douglas received from great and positive promotions,” the Chief said.

The Chief added seeing the City of Douglas logo on the side of the truck was a dream but he still won’t believe it until it actually arrives.

In order to meet the full requirements of the warranty the truck returned to the shop once the Expo was completed where technicians will finish installing all the equipment, then check everything out to make sure it works before bringing it down to Douglas.

Once it arrives there will be three days of intense training for Chief Novoa and his staff in order to familiar themselves with all that this truck can do.

When that is done the Chief is hoping to set up some kind of public viewing and demonstration so the citizens of Douglas can see what all this truck can do and what their tax dollars were spent for.

“This is a very nice truck,” the Chief said. “This is something the citizens of Douglas can be very proud of.”

    Also, interresting to read the negative comments of a few citizens. They are always looking at us. Best of luck to the DFD and the City with their new aerial truck. "

    " the truth of the matter is that anything that will help the first responders of our community is good! They are our neighbors and family! We must all ensure that they are as safe and protected as possible while they protect us! Any other point of view I think is irresponsible!!!

    Just think of the disasters which could happen considering the buildings downtown are close to 100 years old. And do you want the best protection if your house or loved ones are in need?!

    And lets think of the new hotel which is a tall structure. If we want Douglas to prosper we cannot be petty but instead look forward!

    I think the majority of us know these things to be true. "

    " I'll start off by saying that both of them are only looking for an emotional response from people, that's all. The chances of them being bored upper middle class citizens is pretty big. I will, however, say that I don't really see the need for such an expense when the only tall building we have in town is the Gadsden, or maybe an apartment complex or two if you want to push it. "
