Numerous lightning strikes as a result of Wednesday’s storm caused power to go out in Douglas Wednesday, August 8.

At the height of the power outage an estimated 6500 Douglas residents were without electricity. The power outage started at around 3:30 p.m. and returned in some areas by 5:30 p.m. Power came back on temporary in some areas then went out again for one to two hours.

According to Steven Gotfried, Media Spokesperson for APS, power was restored to the entire Douglas community by 8 p.m.

Gotfried said the numerous lighting strikes continued to trip breakers which caused the outages.

As a result of the storm two minor car accidents were recorded in different parts of town.

Nearly half an inch of rain fell on Douglas as a result of the storm.
