CQMA adds physicians to Douglas Rural Health Clinic

Pediatrician Rachel Martin-Camp, MD, and Family Physician Karam Makhni, MD, are joining Copper Queen Medical Associates and accepting new patients at the Douglas Rural Health Clinic beginning Wednesday, August 1, 2012.

“We are pleased to bring these talented physicians to the growing community of Douglas,” said Jim Dickson, Copper Queen Community Hospital’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Their skills will enhance our array of healthcare services at the Douglas Rural Health Clinic for this young and family-oriented town.”

Martin-Camp recently completed her Pediatric Residency at the University of Rochester, where she practiced at the Golisano Children’s Hospital, part of Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arizona (UA) in Tucson in 2009, where she also completed a Master’s of Public Health and Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. Martin-Camp is fluent in Spanish and has served international rotations in Columbia, Nicaragua, India and Kenya.

Makhni recently completed his Family Medicine residency at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Seychelles -American Institute of Medicine in Victoria, Seychelles in 2008, and his Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Leeds in London, England.

The Douglas Rural Health Clinic is located at 100 East Fifth Street. In addition to Drs. Martin-Camp and Makhni, the clinic’s professional staff includes Panayiotis Ellinas, MD; Heidi Lodge, MD; Najib Muradi, MD; Jose Romo, MD and Christina Gorff, RN, FNP.

A groundbreaking to signify the expansion of the Douglas Rural Health clinic occurred in April. The expansion will increase the number of exam rooms will from 10 to 18 and the physical therapy space will increase from 460 to 1200 square feet.
