Primary election results

Tuesday’s primary election failed to have any real surprises.


In the race for District 2 Supervisor incumbent Ann English beat Jeff Harris 2,357 – 675.


She will now face Republican Steven McDiarmid in the Nov. 6 general election.


In the race for County Recorder Democrat Christine Rhodes ran unopposed. She will face Republican Katie Miller who beat Barbara Kaiser 3,978 – 2,600 in the general election.


In the race for Cochise County School Superintendent incumbent Trudy Berry ran unopposed. She will now face Democrat Joy Mimms who beat Gilbert Zamudio 3,489 – 2,843 in Tuesday’s general election.


Statewide ballots for the Congressional District 2 and the U.S. Senate races are still being counted but the unofficial winners have Democrat Ron Barber facing Republican Martha McSally in November. Barber, who won the CD8 special election in June to replace former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, is seeking a full two-year term in CD2 after district lines were redrawn because of the 2010 census.


In the U.S. Senate race to replace retiring Republican John Kyle, U.S. Rep. Jeff Flake was way ahead of challenger Will Cardon.


Flake is expected to face Dr. Richard Carmona, the former U.S. Surgeon General, who had no primary competition.


For Legislative District 14 State Senate and House there was no competition for any political party in the primary election. Republican incumbents Gail Griffin, David Gowan and David Stevens will face Democrats Pat Fleming, Robert Leach and Mark Stonebraker on the Nov. 6 ballot.


Griffin and Fleming will face off for the seat for state senator while the House district will have two representatives which means Gowan and Stevens will be up against Leach and Stonebraker.


The race for the Douglas School Board will be decided in November when incumbents Mario Ramos, Susan Kramer and Mike Ortega will face challengers Natalio Sabal and Louie Tartaglia.

    " It is obvious that the newly elected mayor still wants to have his finger in the educational pie with his brother-in-law running for the board. Give it a rest you guys had underperforming schools when you were there and weren't even aware of the fact. You were too busy with your own agenda. "

    " Oh My God, please don't tell me that Tartaglia is running again. He was ineffective the last time he was there; he is a Danny Ortega/Chuck Hoyack clone. What does he know about education or the issues which embody it? "
