Mexican national arrested for pot smuggling

A male resident of Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico was arrested Aug. 23 for allegedly attempting to smuggle nearly $54,000 worth of marijuana through the Douglas Port of Entry.

Customs and Border Protection officers referred Jonathan Abrego Laguna, 22, for inspection of his Chevrolet sedan when he attempted to enter the United States. After a CBP narcotics canine alerted to the presence of drugs, officers located nearly 108 pounds of marijuana inside the vehicle’s seats and quarter panels.

The drugs and vehicle were seized. Laguna was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
