Norma Cecilia Packert Westbrook, 88, passed away in Tucson, Ariz. on August 30, 2012 at Devon Gables Health Care Center.   She was born April 18, 1924 in East Vaughn, N.M. to Cecil Ralph Herman Packert and Geraldine Virginia Hodges Packert.



After graduation from Vaughn High School, she attended one year of college and then entered the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Denver, Colorado. She graduated in 1946 into the Cadet Nurse Corps, and would have been deployed had World War II continued.


She married Samuel Albert Westbrook, Jr., in 1948. She worked as a nurse for over 35 years and returned to nursing full-time after the birth of her fourth child in 1957. She was a surgical nurse at the Phelps Dodge Hospital in Douglas, Ariz., and then worked at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tucson, Ariz., until her retirement in 1988. She was very proud of being a nurse and of her children and grandchildren.


She is survived by her five children: Linda McNew, Janet Westbrook, Sam Westbrook, Amy Westbrook (Dave), and Melissa Westbrook (Gaetano). She also is survived by ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her cousin Constance Ferguson; and a brother and his family.


Arrangements and services are being handled by Abbey Funeral Home in Tucson, 3435 N. First Avenue, 520-888-1111.   Visitation: Wednesday, Sept 5, 10 to 11 am. Memorial Service: 11-Noon. Norma will be buried on Friday, Sept 7 in Albuquerque, N. M. at Sunset Memorial Park, her parents' final resting place.
