The Douglas Lady Bulldogs volleyball team suffered two more losses last week falling to 3-7 on the season.

On Sept. 18 the Lady Bulldogs hosted Benson and fell 3-1. Douglas won game one 25-20 then lost games two, three and four 12-25, 24-26 and 15-25.

Aileen Nunez had five kills and three digs for Douglas; Karina Avechuco seven kills, six blocks, six digs and three assists; Aileen Alegria two aces and Ruby Samaniego 17 assists.

Douglas’ coach Carlos Chavez said his team came out game one and appeared focused and ready to play.

“Then we lost our composure and couldn’t stay focused,” he said. “Benson is a good squad. I thought we could have competed better. The girls need to be ready to play every match.”

On Sept. 20 Douglas hosted Tombstone and was swept in three straight falling 18-25, 23-25 and 20-25.

Jenise Olivarria had 12 assists, two digs and a kill; Valeria Verdugo two digs and two aces; Kianna Ross a kill, four digs and two aces; Jennifer Montoya five kills; Abigail Nieblas five kills, two blocks and eight digs and Avechuco eight digs, five kills and two blocks.

Coach Chavez said based on the previous matches with Tombstone he was expecting a tough match but again figured his team would compete better than what it did.

“We made too many mistakes,” the coach said. “We need to be more solid and play up to our abilities.”

The Lady Bulldogs have three matches next week playing at Cienega on Oct. 2; Pusch Ridge on Oct. 3 and Willcox on Oct. 4
