DHS golf coach Bosco Selchow said the course was being re-seeded for winter and was not in the best of playing conditions. Still the two teams played and Marana Mountain View beat Douglas 170-187.
Andres Rico led Douglas with a team low of 44. Brothers Eric and Martin Valenzuela each shot a 45, Adrian Vildosola shot 53 and Jake Salmon followed with a 56.
On Thursday, Sept. 20, the Bulldogs hosted Buena in a match that was rescheduled from Sept. 6.
Buena beat Douglas 165-172.
Salmon played his best match of the year and tied Buena’s Jimin Yoo for the match low shooting a 38.
Vildosola followed with a 44, Robbie Romero shot a 45, Martin Valenzuela a 45 and Rico a 46.
Coach Selchow said he was very happy with Salmon’s score and hopes he can keep it up the rest of the season.
“I felt the other kids didn’t play as well,” the coach said. “We missed our target score by six strokes.”
In order to make state a team must shoot a score of 166 three times at home and twice on the road.
The Bulldogs have made the target score once on the road already.
As far as the Sept. 18 match the coach said he’s got to take it for what it is and move on.
The coach said the kids on his team know what they can do, it’s just a matter of getting out there and doing it.
The Bulldogs have just one match this week hosting Nogales on Thursday at the Douglas Golf Course.
