Douglas Elks host golf tournament

The Douglas Elks Lodge #955 recently held the Third Annual Marshall “John” Foster Clothe-A-Child Golf Tournament Sept. 8.

There were a total of 56 local and traveling golfers that supported one of the Lodges most cherished programs. All proceeds gathered from the tournament go toward purchasing clothing for local youth. Every year around Christmas time, lodge members volunteer by taking a child or two shopping for clothing. From jackets to shoes, the local Elks Lodge tries to buy all that is needed.

“We may not be able to buy them a lot of items, but what we can purchase them sure does put a smile on their faces,” co-organizer Michael Moulinet said. “There is nothing more rewarding than that.”

Moulinet said last year the Douglas Elks Lodge was able to clothe about 16 children with a $120 apiece. Moulinet said $120 may not be a lot, but when you see how happy these children get when they can choose something they really like, it’s like were spending a million on them.

“Having functions like the golf tournament with sponsors, players and members that are givers, sure does help our cause,” he said.

The Douglas Elks would like to thank all the players for their support, all the volunteers that helped out during the tournament, the sponsors for their generous and heart felt donations and most of all Co-Organizer George Lopez III, for his tireless work and determination to make a difference in a young child’s life.
