Officials from the Douglas Police Department are asking anyone with information about a stolen vehicle case that occurred Saturday, Aug. 25 to please come forward.

According to Sgt. Jose Duarte of the Douglas Police Department, around 1:40 p.m. that day Douglas Police Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of 9th Street in reference to a stolen vehicle that had just occurred. Upon arrival they were informed by the victim that her vehicle had just been stole by a male subject who had displayed a weapon.

According to Duarte, the victim stated that she had been approached by a Hispanic male, between 20-25 years of age, and that he demanded the keys to the vehicle. He was told the keys were in the car. The male subject entered the car and left the area at a high rate of speed.

Duarte said the victim informed Douglas Police Officers that her vehicle was a black in color Ford Expedition with an Arizona Temporary License Plate. DPD Officers were able to place an attempt to locate on the vehicle with all surrounding law enforcements agencies and the vehicle later turned up abandoned in the 2500 block of 23rd Street.

Sgt. Duarte said Douglas Police Officers were unable to locate any suspects in the area and the vehicle was impounded as evidence.

Any evidence found in the vehicle to the Arizona Department of Public Safety in an attempt to identify the male subject and any other suspects that may have been in the vehicle, Duarte said.

The DPD is continuing its investigation into stolen vehicle incident.

“If anyone was in the area during this time and observed or witnessed the event, please contact the Douglas Police Department at 520-417-7550 and ask for Det. Gonzalez,” Sgt. Duarte said. “All calls with information can remain confidential.”
