Bulldog runners second in tri-meet

The Douglas Bulldog cross country team came in second in a triangular meet last week with Buena and Sunnyside in Tucson.


Buena won the meet finishing with a perfect score of 15. Douglas was second with 58 points and Sunnyside third with 67.

Buena’s Joshua Velasquez was the overall winner finishing with a time of 19:04.

Ricky Larez led Douglas finishing ninth overall with a time of 20:37; Jesus Loreto followed in 10th place and a time of 20:39. Brothers Gustavo and Ricky Melendez were 12th and 13th respectively posting times of 21:20 and 21:23.

Alonso Sodari was 20th with a 23:44; John Owen 21st with a 23:49; Manuel Acedo 32nd, 26:57; Rafael Carrillo, 33rd, 28:37; Raul Montano 34th, 28:37 and Rafael Martinez, 35th. Martinez’ time was not available.

Thirty-five runners ran in the race.

In the girl’s race, Buena was the winner posting a perfect score of 15 just like their boys team. Sunnyside was second with 53 and Douglas did not score fielding just three runners.

Twenty-two runners ran in this race. Buena’s Rainey Kogan was the overall winner posting a time of 24:16.

Emeri Melendez led Douglas finishing fourth overall with a time of 25:04; Karla Loreto was next finishing in 14th place with a time of 28:42 and Laura Blair was 20th with a 33:26.

The DHS runners were scheduled to run today against Amphi and Santa Rita in a triangular race in Douglas but the meet has been pushed back to Thursday and Santa Rita has notified Douglas coaches they will not be coming down so the race will be a dual meet starting at 4:30 p.m.
