Bella Bailarina, ran and owned by Nubia Elias and Adriana Harris, opened their doors August 13.

Elias, who has been a dance instructor for three years said, “the girls are really excited and we are having a lot of fun.”

Classes are being offered to dancers ages 2 and up, with styles ranging from ballet to jazz, tap, Folklorico, Tahitian, Broadway, and hip-hop. Registration cost is $40 a month.

“We currently have 42 girls registered, and are still accepting dancers,” Elias said.

Bella Bailarina’s first recital will be held in December, date and location to be announced at a later time.

Elias and Harris would like to give a special thank you to Victor Machado who helped build their studio.

Bella Bailarina is located at 529 11th Street; call (520) 249-8669 for more information.

" I cannot believe how badly you guys were robbed of 1st place at the parade. You guys were obviously the best parade entry and it truly saddens me to see that you were not appreciated like you should have been. Howard you should really open your eyes and judge the entries fairly or stop organizing the fiestas just to further your personal agenda! "

" Though I do not dance or go to learn to dance or have anyone in dance I must say I know both Miss Mary and Nubia Ellis and both are warm talented teachers who are both being hurt by the comments you all are making and I mean everyone the choice to pick whatever dance studio you go to is the childrens and the parents that is what America is about just like choosing which resturant you wish to eat at all of you should be thinking how much this may be hurting them and say I'm sorry this is really uncalled for . Think before you all fight battles that are not being held "

" I'd like make a reference to Dance Lover's harsh remarks regarding the local dance srudios in Douglas. First, i never knew that Mrs Mary was breeding her students for stardom in our little town. How many of your students have gone on to Juliart? Straight to Broadway? I thought being in these classes was to build self-esteem, team work, and garner some grace for our youth in Douglas. Let the kids have fun! Stop with the ridiculousness and get back to the kids.
By the way, how many of these local studios hold a business license? Gotta Dance does! "

" To Dance Lover, it seems you are bitter about something that has gone wrong with you(or maybe your own business)and whatever it may be you should deal with it on a different level and not try to bash the new dance studio. Anything new that comes to our community should be well accepted; the more the better! Mrs. Mary closed her doors for her own reasons a long time ago and others have come and gone to that building and many changes have been made to the enterior according to the business and now changes are made to accomodate this dance studio. Adriana and Nubia all the best of luck to you and your business; I will defenitely promote your busines because by what I have heard and seen you are on a successful track even with the envious bitter people who are trying to bash you. All your clients, both young and old, look very happy and enjoying the talent and professionalism you are offering them. Continue to work hard and keep your heads held up high because success is on your side as many many people in this community.......... "

" This is obvious that it is nothing but pure and regretably envious people talking/commenting. This new studio is nothing but a great addition to our community of all ages and wish these ladies all the great success because not only are others who either have an unsuccessful studio or were never able to reach this goal, and only trying to discouraging others and these ladies by sending negative comments. I personally will be enrolling my daughter because I've heard nothing but positive comments and I think it will be a great experience. Furthermore, any dance studio that was there in the past is only that, the past and Dance Centre West was closed by choice and no one stepped on anyone's "Toes". Lastely, it saddens me that nothing good and positive can be done without others sending wrong messages----this is so envious, unprofessional and sad but with all negativity and envy comes great success and happiness to others. On that note, lots of luck ladies and God Bless a long and profitable business. "

" IT MAKES ME REALLY UPSET THE ANNONYMOUS COMMENT THAT WAS POSTED FROM NEGATIVE PEOPLE THAT DONT EVEN HAVE THE GUT TO SIGN THEIR NAME. I WANT TO HIGHLY CONGRATULATE THE GIRLS ADRIANA HARRIS AND NUBIA ELIAS FOR THEIR NEW DANCE ACADEMY!! IT IS SOMETHING THAT WAS REALLY NEEDED IN THIS LITTLE TOWN. FOR WHAT IVE HEARD I HAVE ONLY HEARD REALLY GOOD COMPLIMENTS ABOUT THE ACADEMY "BELLA BAILARINA" AND HAVE SEEN THAT ALL THE GIRLS ARE ALWAYS HAPPY AND EXCITED TO GO DANCE! IN MY BELIEF THE ONLY COMMENTS THAT REALLY MATTER ARE THE ONES FROM THE GIRLS THAT ARE ATTENDING THE ACADEMY AND FROM THEY REALLY HAPPY WITH THE ACADEMY! SO THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS THAT ARE MADE HAVE NO VALUE WHAT SO EVER SO CONGRATULATIONS "BELLA BAILARINA" KEEP UP THE GOOD AND HARD WORK!!!! "

    " Dance Lover,

Such a lack of character & keep your negativity out of sight, nobody is trying to compare to past present or future studios, this is the art of dancing for anyone wanting to dance! If you want the floors then you should of taken it in your own hands to drag them with you wherever your studio is!!! "

" As a resident of Douglas for many years I would like to congratulate the women running this dance studio for opening such a wonderful recreational opportunity to all these beautiful young girls. I'm excited to see that there is something available in Douglas for little girls to go and "have fun". To the comment from "DANCE lOVER" I'm still trying to understand why you would compare this dance studio with anyone else's. Whoever and whatever was there before doesnt exist now. Douglas is such a small town and when something good happens.. there is always someone who has to try and bring people down. These little girls look like they're having the time of their lives and unless your children continued dancing at Juilliard then your opinion doens't really matter. There is always enough space for other people to open their business. Good luck to ALL of the other dance studios in town! Keep rocking it and don't let any negative comments bring you down! "

To Dance Lover wrote on Sep 6, 2012 12:50 PM:

" First of all I sense a bit of bitterness in your comment and it only leads me to conclude that you either never really had the money to get a studio of your own started or that you are not a very good dancer, therefore you feel the need to bash on the hard work of other people. Last time I checked Miss Mary left that building by her own choice nobody kicked her out like you are making it sound. Second, nobody in this article even mentions Miss Mary or what she is capable or not capable of doing so I don’t even know why you are bringing her into this. Third, if there was no need for another dance studio then why are so many girls attending this one? Maybe we the parents don’t want to take our children to some “home-based” studio or a “church-based” studio; we want someone who is willing to provide the adequate space for our children to move around freely, even if that means that they would actually pay rent and other fees. These are the kind of businesses that Douglas needs, LEGIT; I dare you to go around town and check if the other dance studios even have business licenses since they do them at home.
I think you were way out of line saying that these dancers owe Miss Mary for the floor she “created, smooth and polished” last time I checked Miss Mary is not a carpenter so I don’t know what you mean by saying she created them, too funny. In that case you should have helped her take those floors with her when she decided to leave.
And what are you some professional dance critic “I’ll be watching you and comparing you” you sound more like a crazed stalker, lol.
If I were you I would try to invest my time into something a little more productive instead of watching little girls dance and posting crazy comments that make no sense. Furthermore, make sure that you drink your daily dose of “haterade” every morning, but in your case I would double up.
Best wishes to the new business and don’t let people with no life discourage you, and be careful there’s a stalker watching you. "

" I have to wonder why this studio trumps Dance Center West, and more specifically why there is such a need for another dance studio in Douglas. The feeling is one of ethnocentricity. The teacher of Dance Center West was a professional dancer with more years of experience than I am old. She is tough, yes. Why? Because that is the real dance world. To become a dancer, the student must learn the language, the motion, the discipline, and how to use the dancer body to express emotion. I have been to numerous performances in Douglas by a variety of studios. Nothing compares with Dance Center West! I am aghast that it seems that Miss Mary was virtually run out of her studio, though a few years have passed since she left the location of the current "new dance studio". The dancers at the "new dance studio" owe Miss Mary a huge debt. Those floors are her creation. Hard wood! Smooth and polished so the dancers feet don't get hurt! The new teachers know the studio was painted by the Victor Machado, the floors are the muscle and bones and credit should be given where credit is due! Miss Mary!

Miss Mary if you read this, you have been wonderful, hard and wonderful! Thank you for giving my children the opportunity to learn from a professional. Your rates are 1/2 the cost of the new studio and your love for the children is obvious! Keep dancing! Keep teaching.

For the new studio, I do wish you luck. I'll be watching and comparing you, continually, to Miss Mary. "
