After considerable time and deliberation the Douglas Fire Department has its new $1.1 million ladder fire truck.

Chief Novoa and his crew have worked so hard trying to convince city officials how badly this truck was needed.
Well its here and now all we have to do is wait two weeks for the firefighters to get trained on how to properly use all the different devices it has on it.
Seeing that 100-foot ladder extend high up into the air over the Douglas Fire Department with Chief Novoa and his Lieutenant Kevin Lomeli inside gave you an idea of how tall this thing really is and how much easier it is to tackle something when you’re on top of it, rather than wrestling with it from the side.
In the last 12 months there have been three major fires in Douglas where had this truck been available, it would have been useful.
On Thursday I went to the fire house to meet with Chief Novoa. He was not in his office but out with the truck, it was obvious he was still filled with excitement over this new piece of equipment.
Some have questioned the purchase saying the timing wasn’t right to make such a large purchase.
But actually the timing couldn’t have been better since the interest rate was so low for this.
I applaud the Mayor, City Council and others who had a hand in this purchase and say thank you.
I can’t wait to see this truck in action but then again, in a way I can.
