A 27-year-old man from Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, apprehended by Douglas Station Border Patrol agents in December 2011, was recently sentenced to 46 months of confinement.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuted Carlos Granillo-León after his apprehension for attempting to illegally re-enter the United States as an aggravated felon following a previous deportation. During processing in December, agents used the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) to learn that Granillo- León was convicted for possession with intent to distribute marijuana in 2010 and sentenced to 21 months in prison.

Following the Border Patrol’s initial processing, the case was submitted to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

Granillo- León will be formally removed from the U.S. following his 46-month incarceration and is now banned for life from any legalization process.
