A Desert View runner whose name was not available was the overall winner posting a time of 18-minutes, 42 seconds.
Ricky Larez led Douglas finishing second with a time of 18:53; Gustavo Melendez was third with an 18:54 and Jesus Loreto seventh with a time of 19:26. Ricky Melendez finished ninth overall with a time of 19:32; John Owen was 12th, 22:09; Alonso Sodari, 13th, 22:33; Rafael Carrillo 18th, 25:33; Josh Lujan 19th, 25:34 and Manny Acedo, 22nd, 25:46.
Twenty-eight boys ran in the race.
In the girls race Douglas again had just three runners running and was therefore unable to score.
Desert View won the race beating Palo Verde 42-48.
Douglas’ Karla Loreto was the overall winner finishing with a time of 23:16; Emery Melendez was second with a 23:47 and Laura Blair sixth with a 25:53.
Thirteen runners ran in the girl’s race.
Douglas’ cross country coach Nicole Gomez Mariscal said she was very happy to see Karla do so well but that all three of her girls brought down their times.
“They continue to work hard in practice and it’s paying off,” she said.
The boys had somewhat of a difficult time, the coach said, running on a course that was not clearly marked.
Desert View was the hosting team and the boys were the first to run. Coach Mariscal said several of the runners got confused and ended taking some turns which in the end affected their times.
At the end of the boy’s race there was some discussion and spotters were placed throughout the girl’s race making it easier for them to stay on the course.
“I’m very pleased with our performances,” the coach said. “The kids are really producing some good times.”
The DHS runners are back in action today running against Buena and Sunnyside in a triangular meet in Tucson.
Douglas will be at home Sept. 26 running against Santa Rita and Amphi
