The Douglas Chargers hosted the Willcox Cowboys in Youth Football League play Saturday at Armando DeLucas Stadium.

Juan Munoz had touchdown runs of 30, 70 and 35 yards; Emiliano Berthely had a 44 yard and a 15yard touchdown run plus three tackles. Vicente Cardona connected with Hugo Castillo for a 45yard TD pass. Cardona also lead the team with six tackles. Kenny Nelson had three yard point after rush for a conversion. Angel Vasquez had four tackles; Hugo Castillo and Diego Ybarra each had three tackles; Jacob Ramirez two tackles and Isaac Jocobo one tackle.
In mighty mite play Douglas was shutout 27-0 falling to 0-4.
Emeterio Hernandez, Tanner Malusky and Raul Chavez all had fumble recoveries
Hernandez lead team with four tackles; D’Andre Acosta, Martin Villa, Adrian Vega and Raul Chavez each had two tackles and Joseph Ramirez, Jose Guerrero, Adrian Garcia and Jayden Franco each had one tackle.
The peewee game ended in controversy as what appeared to be a Charger win ended up in a 25-21 loss as they drop to 2-2 on the season.
According to Douglas Charger President Ken Nelson on the last play of the game the Cowboys faked a kneel down to end the game and the quarterback stood up and dropped back. When this happened a Charger defensive player stripped him of the ball and ran it back for a Charger touchdown to win the game.
Nelson said the refs huddled and came back with a no touchdown call due to an inadvertent whistle that was blown prematurely.
“The entire sideline or coaching staff did not hear this whistle blown,” Nelson said. “The refs stated that when an inadvertent whistle is blown the play must be redone. I spoke to the refs after the game and was told it should have been a Charger touchdown but do to the inadvertent whistle they could not count the score.”
Stats for the game had Alan Anguiano with touchdown runs of 32 and 46 yards; Trey Rose connected with Anguiano for a 22 yard passing TD; David Grajeda was successful on three point after rushing attempts; Markos Castillo had an interception and a tackle; Christian Estrella had five tackles and a QB sack; David Grajeda and Dominick Amarillas each had four tackles; Adrian Ruiz, Jacob Del Rio each had three tackles; Alan Anguiano, Adam Hernandez, Anthony Flores all had two tackles and Ryan Partain and Samuel Ramos each had one tackle.
In the midget game that followed the Chargers fell 30-16 to the Sierra Vista Colts falling to 1-3.
Miguel Vasquez had an interception this game; Andres Robles connected with Easton Rose for a 60 yard TD pass; Pablo Bello was able to rush the three yard point after attempt; Jude Romero caused a fumble and Eric Anguiano recovered the fumble; Adrian Dominguez had a fumble recovery; Robles had a one yard TD run; Robles also connected with Anguiano for a three yard point after attempt pass and he recovered on onside kick; Anguiano lead team with eight tackles; Rose and Miguel Luna each had four tackles; Robles and Romero each had two tackles and Anthony Vasquez, Adrian Dominguez, Alberto Hurtado and Jesse Worley each had one tackle.
All four teams are in Sierra Vista this Saturday taking on the Sierra Vista Cardinals. Game times are 8 and 10 a.m. and 12 and 4 p.m.
