After five years of planning and gathering funds, KWR Construction will start construction on the new fire house within a few weeks.

The Fire Department will be located on Washington and Primrose, which will put them in their district.

“Once the engineers come in and make sure everything is ok they will start construction,” Sunnyside Fire Chief Victor Rosadilla said.

Currently the Sunnyside Fire Department has 15 volunteer fire men.

The total cost of the fire house will be $345,000; $280,000 is from a USAD loan and $65,000 will be covered funds that the fire department has saved over the years.

“It’s exciting because we have been in city limits for so long and now we will be in our actual district,” said Tom Schelling, business manager for the Sunnyside Fire Dept.

On the backside of the two lots allocated for the fire house they will build a meeting room, storage room, restroom and the Chief’s office, on the front facing Washington, there will be three big bays for the fire trucks.

“I had a choice a fire house or a fire truck,” Chief Rosadilla said. “I choose a fire house.”

My comment was addresed to "douglas citizen" He is someone who is too lazy to work. I know that the firefighters from the Sunnyside Fire Dept. freely give of their time to benifit the community and that is to be applauded. If you have read "douglas citizen's" comments he made on this article and all other articles, he and his "los Pobres" are just look for a free handout. "

I'm not quite sure I understood your comment on "los Pobres". Let us make something real clear. We do have jobs, all of us. With this in mind make yourself aware that is why we go the extra mile to do our job to serve our community. We respond time and time again having to leave our work to answer to a page from CCSO in order to respond to a fire or whatever our community is in need of, with the exception of medical assistance. With this in mind we manage to safely keep an excellent response time. As far as hiring more "pobres" no! That is not how you gewt hired. You will get hired if you prove a desire and healthy work ethic to be able to rise to the occasion. It is about the T-shirt. "

" You guys get my props. You do your job without all the bells and whistles and without the need of being in the paper all the time. Now that DFD has their million dollar truck one of their older ones should be donated to your dept., after all people on the outside of the city limits also deserve the best. "

" Congratulations Sunnyside and Chief. What an awsome accomplishment. Progress means having to put up with jealous and bias comments. You guys earned it! You have my support. Paid or not paid. You firefighters go through a lot to get the job done and put your lives on the line every day. Thanks for your hard work and good luck with your new build. God Bless you all and may he keep you safe. "

" To Douglas Citizen: Sunnyside Fire Dept. is a volunteer fire department. No one gets paid. Since you don't have a job or want to work, why don't you and your "los Pobres" become volunteer firefighters? Probably not, because that is too much like work. "

" Are they going to hire some pobres as fireman? Pobres need good government jobs too. "
