Friends of the Douglas Library held a meeting on Sept. 24 in preparation for their fall book sale and Centennial Celebration.

The sales dates are Oct. 11-13 with a friends preview night on Oct. 11.

The sale will be in conjunction with the Arizona Centennial activities, specifically the Centennial authors and artists’ weekend celebration at the Gadsden on Oct. 13, followed by the Spirit of Douglas Literature Award.

“We are thrilled that the centennial committee has confirmed Gov. Raul Castro's participation, along with 20 some other authors and artists, to date,” secretary, Maryelizabeth Hart said.

The Douglas Library will have a display promoting the Friends, the Sale, and the Authors and Artists event when Banned Books Week ends.

Banned Books Week is the national book community's annual celebration of the freedom to read.

We would like to thank Olga Rudy for setting the display up, said Hart.

Friends of the Douglas Library are still in the need of volunteers for the following dates and times. Oct. 11, morning hours, set-up times to be announced; Oct. 11, 4:30 – 7 p.m.; Oct. 12, 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and 1:30-5 p.m.; Oct. 13, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

They will also need volunteers to help at the Authors and Artists event at the Gadsden Hotel to help promote the Friends and the Library.

Contact Hart to volunteer at (520) 364-4774.
