During the month of October the Douglas Centennial Committee invites all of Douglas to come out and celebrate Arizona’s 100th birthday.

Schedule of events are as follow:
· Oct. 6, will be a Fly-In Pancake Breakfast cooked by the Rotarians. A replica of the Douglas Glider will be unveiled and a letter signed by Eleanor Roosevelt, June 5, 1933 when the airport was dedicated will be raffled off.
· Oct. 13, Authors and Artists Weekend, authors who have written about the Douglas community or live in the community will be selling books and art. The highlight is Raul Castro’s participation in the event.
· Oct. 20, Music Festival, featuring songs of Leonardo Yanez sung by the Mariachi Folklorico 18 of Sonora and songs by Stan Jones, sung by his great nephew and renowned musician Keeter Stuart.
· Oct. 27, Photo Exhibit and Time Capsule Reception- contribution by the youth and community leaders to be sealed in the time capsule and opened in 50 years. Cochise College is making the time capsule so that the community and their contribution will be memorialized in the time capsule for their hard work.
· All during the Month of October the History Makers on the Move and an exhibit of Historical leaders from Cochise County and Photos of Douglas will be shown at the new Government Building on 10th Street and G Avenue.
The Douglas Rotarians, who last year celebrated 75 years as Rotarians (in competition with being the oldest but had disbanded during WWI for a few years,) believed that the community needed to be reminded of the pride the people of Douglas share as contributors to the history of our great state, said Kathleen Gomez, member of Douglas Centennial Committee.
“We hope the Douglas will take advantage of the free events,” said Gomez. “It is our history, come and relive it and bring your children or grandchildren so that they can learn what great history lies in this town.”
