Last Thursday’s freshmen football game between Douglas and Santa Rita was called on account of lightning at the end of the first quarter with Santa Rita up 8-0.

The Eagles ran back the opening kickoff for a touchdown and converted the two point conversion taking an early lead.

Rain had been falling throughout the game but picked up as lightning and thunder moved into the area midway through the opening quarter.

The game was called shortly before 7 p.m. but the players and coaches were told to wait inside the locker room till the storm had passed which was around 8, DHS freshmen coach Ron Ellsworth said.

The Bulldog freshmen are back in action tomorrow hosting Nogales in a 6 p.m. game at Armando DeLucas Stadium.
