DHS swimmers win tri-meet

The Douglas High School Bulldog and Lady Bulldog swim teams won a tri-meet with Palo Verde and Walden Grove last week.

The meet was held, Sept. 13, at the Sahuarita Aquatic Center and featured electronic timing.

The Bulldogs set a school record for most points in a meet finishing with 514 while Palo Verde was second with 263 and Walden Grove third with 210.

Israel Andrade won the 200 individual medley event turning in a time of 3:18.40 while in the 200 freestyle event Tristen Luna came in second with a time of 2:21.97 while Rodrigo Martinez was third with a 2:49.54.

Luna and Saul Salinas would later finish second and fourth respectively in the 500 freestyle turning in times of 6:50.41 and 7:56.29.

In the 50 freestyle Martin Dominquez was first with a time of 25.88 seconds; Quentin Herrera was second with a 28.29 and Juan Martinez third with a 35.19.

Dominguez would come back later to finish second in the 100 butterfly event posting a time of 1:04.05.

In the 100 freestyle Gabriel Aguilar placed second with a time of 56.75 seconds; Patrick Ramacho was third with a 1:15.40.

Aguilar would finish first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:11.72 while Martinez was second with a 1:15.57.

Luna and Herrera would finish first and second in the 100 breaststroke finishing with times of 1:12.08 and 1:23.61.

In the relay events Douglas had two teams in all three relays.

In the 200 medley relay Douglas’ “A” team of Martinez, Luna, Dominguez and Herrera came in first with a time of 2:04.58.

The “B” team of Aguilar, Salinas, Andrade and Ramacho was second with a time of 2:15.77.

The 200 freestyle “A” relay team of Salinas, Ramacho, Andrade and Kain Luna came in first with a time of 1:57.95 while the “B” relay team of Javier Busanez, Diego Luy, Juan Martinez and Jose Moreno finished third with a time of 2:30.90.

In the 400 freestyle relay Douglas’ “A” team of Dominguez, Aguilar, Rodrigo Martinez and Herrera came in first with a time of 4:15.87 while the “B” relay team of Andrade, Ramacho, Kain Luna and Salinas was second with a time of 4:29.91.

In the girls meet the Lady Bulldogs also set a school road for most points scored in a meet finishing with 539. Walden Grove was second with 297 and Palo Verde third with 168.

In the 200 freestyle Andrea Parra and Andrea Guerra were second and third with times of 3:05.15 and 3:15.12.

Harley Villalobos won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:57.11 while Victoria Grijalva was second with a time of 3:04.82.

Villalobos also won the 100 butterfly posting a time of 1:21.55.

In the 50 freestyle Carolyne Miller came in first with a time of 27.50 seconds; Victoria Morales was second with a 29.63 and Brianna Salcido placed fourth with a 34.02.

Miller and Ana Francia Morales finished first and second in the 100 freestyle turning in times of 1:05.11 and 1:12.55.

Frances Young and Aglae Morales finished in second and fourth place respectively in the 500 freestyle turning in times of 7:32.83 and 9:20.50.

Young won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:27.95; Ariana Sanchez was second with a 1:33.51.

In the 100 backstroke Giovanna Gonzalez placed third with a time of 1:30.07 and Zenaida Parra was fourth with a time of 1:31.85.

The Lady Bulldogs also had two relay teams in all three relay events.

In the 200 medley relay Douglas’ “A” team of Gonzalez, Young, Miller and Victoria Morales came in first with a time of 2:19.33.

The “B” team of Grijalva, Aglae Morales, Ana Francia Morales and Zenaida Parra was second with a time of 2:38.53.

The 200 freestyle relay had Douglas’ “A” team of Ana Francia Morales, Zenaida and Andrea Parra and Victoria Morales coming in first with a time of 2:09.50. The “B” team of Villalobos, Salcido, Maria Palacios and Young were second with a time of 2:20.20.

The 400 freestyle “A” relay team Victoria and Ana Francia Morales, Grijalva and Miller came in first with a time of 4:48.02 while the “B” relay team of Kayla Parra, Aglae Morals, Salcido and Sarah Altamirano placed third with a time of 6:08.27.

Douglas’ swim coach Michelle Cardenas said she was extremely pleased with how well both teams swam Thursday.

“They both put in a really good effort,” she said. “The was our first meet where our depth and quality showed in the overall points.”

The DHS swimmers are back in action Thursday hosting Buena in a dual meet at 4 p.m. at the Douglas Aquatic Center
