In the boys race there were 16 total runners and Douglas came away with a 19-42 win. In the girls race neither team scored as Douglas nor Amphi had the required five runners needed to score. In the girls race, which featured just six runners, Amphi’s Manna Zavala was the overall winner posting a time of 23:37. Douglas then took the next three spots as Karla Loreto followed in second place with a 24:54; Emeri Melendez was third with a 24:55 and Laura Hurtado fourth with a 25:01. In the boys race Ricky Larez was the overall winner finishing with a time of 17:31. Gustavo Melendez was third with a 18:40; Jesus Loreto fourth with an 18:49; Ricky Melendez fifth with an 18:51. Alonso Sodari, sixth; 19:06; John Owen eighth with a 21:04; Raul Montano, ninth with a 21:26; Joshua Lujan 10th, 22:18; Rafael Carrillo, 11th, 22:27; Manuel Acedo, 12th, 22:40 and Rafael Martinez, 16th, 27:59. “The Douglas boys and girls had a great day,” said their coach Nicole Gomez Mariscal. “Almost every single boy shaved off at least one minute. These are the times the boys need to be running if they want to be competitive at regionals. The girls are doing well, but their times need to be in the 23s.” Douglas has its last home meet today hosting Empire and Palo Verde. There will be just one race. It will start at 4:30 p.m. |
