“We are continuing to work through the transition.” City Manager, Carlos De La Torre said. “Everything is going as planned. We are ready to assume full control of the system... To date, we have not run into any major glitches.”

The service is opened to the general public and will offer four routes with over 50 stops throughout Douglas.

On Friday Sept. 29 the city received the four buses that will be leased from the Yuma County Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority (YCIPTA).

The City of Douglas will be leasing four buses from YCIPTA at $1.00 per year/per vehicle. This will save the city approximately $11,200 this fiscal year.

Routes originate from a central transfer point located at 11th Street between G and H Avenues.

The routes include: Midtown, Pirtleville/Downtown, Dial-A-Ride and Cochise College.

Douglas Rides general public transportation service will be provided Monday – Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

· Dial-A-Ride service will require a 24 hours advance notice.

· Inter-city service to Elfrida, will be provided one day a week every other week. (Elderly and disabled clients are transported to Douglas for grocery shopping, nutrition services and medical appointments.)

Bus fares are: adult (19-59) $1; seniors (60+) 50 cents; disabled 50 cents and students (7-18) 75 cents.

Douglas Rides staffing include four full time drivers, one full time dispatcher, one full time transit coordinator, and the transit manager.
