When the going gets toughâ€-

I have always admired Douglas for its commitment to high school sports along with all of the other leagues the community supports throughout the year.

High school football has always been my favorite event to attend. It has felt like entering the movie “Friday Night Lights”, especially in the last three years.

Last year I was able to be out on the field, working for the Douglas Dispatch, with the players and coaches. The intensity on Douglas High School Football Coach Dick Keith’s face has put me in awe many times. You can tell he puts his heart and soul into coaching the Bulldogs.

He has even said it himself in an interview with the Douglas Dispatch, August 2009, “I feel blessed that I’m out here again. I never dreamed I’d get another shot to coach this team again.”

He feels “blessed” to be coaching kids from Douglas, your kids.

The Bulldogs have had a rough couple of Fridays. OK let’s admit it, they have been “soundly defeated” to say the least.

So what? These are our kids and our coaches that for the past three years we have cheered for, cried for, and praised in every way.

“Once a Bulldog, always a Bulldog.” Always, not just when we are winning and going to state but when we are losing.

Coach Keith has been coaching the Bulldogs for eight seasons and taken the Bulldogs to the post season five of those years in 1989, 1990, 2009, 2010 and 2011. He’s an amazing, dedicated, and loyal coach.

Now it’s your turn Douglas fans to be dedicated and loyal, not just when we are on top but also on bottom.

We should be standing by the man who has made it possible for our kids to have many winning seasons along with many memories that they will forever keep in their hearts.

Remember this fans, “perfection is being able to look your friends in the eye and know you did everything you could not to let them down.” This is exactly what Coach Keith and the Bulldogs have done for Douglas.

" It's great to win -- but how many wins are not nearly as important as "HOW YOU PLAY THE GAME"! Thanks for all your work coach, and team, NEVER GIVE UP! Go Bulldogs. (H.C. Bloomquist, Class of 1960 --- Band 1955-1960 -- UA Wildcat Class of 1965) "
