According to Douglas Charger President Ken Nelson on the last play of the game the Cowboys faked a kneel down to end the game and the quarterback stood up and dropped back. When this happened a Charger defensive player stripped him of the ball and ran it back for a Charger touchdown to win the game.

Nelson said the refs huddled and came back with a no touchdown call due to an inadvertent whistle that was blown prematurely.

“The entire sideline or coaching staff did not hear this whistle blown,” Nelson said. “The refs stated that when an inadvertent whistle is blown the play must be redone. I spoke to the refs after the game and was told it should have been a Charger touchdown but do to the inadvertent whistle they could not count the score.”
