Authors and Artists weekend Oct. 13

On Saturday Oct. 13 the Douglas Centennial Committee will present the Authors and Artists weekend.

There will be an estimated 17 authors at the Gadsden Hotel from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. presenting their work.

Margarita Ramirez Loya author of We Are Stories will be one of the many authors at the Gadsden. Loya a student at Cochise College, collected and retold amazing stories from senior citizens living in the Arizona/Sonora border. This book represents a window to a time in history that once was and needs to be remembered.

Douglas’ First Baptist Church Pastor Mike Lingenfelter will be on hand with his book Stepping Forward: A 39 Day Walk Through Ephesians, a devotional and study with insight and challenge.

Cindy Hayostek, author of Borderland Chronicles, a quarterly magazine about the fascinating history and people of Douglas, Agua Prieta and the surrounding area, will also be at the event.

Jeff Mariotte is an author known for his own work. He is best known for writing novels and comic books based on licensed properties. He is the author of the series Witch Season and has also written many Charmed and Angel books based on the television shows. In 2006 he announced that would retire from the Angel franchise after 11 novels and 11 comics. He also created and writes the Desperadoes series of Weird West-style comic books and Graveslingers.

The committee is also proud to present authors Yvonne Navarro and her husband Weston Ochse. Navarro has published over 12 books of those 12, the titles After Age, deadrush, Final Impact, Red Shadows, Dead Times, That's Not My Name and Mirror Me were solo novels, or fiction created solely by her. Her most recent works Highborn and Concrete Savior are part of The Dark Redemption Series.

Ochse, has won the Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel and been nominated for the Pushcart Prize for his short fiction. He has been a faculty member for Cochise College and runs the online Guerrilla Fiction Writing Workshop.

Other authors from southern Arizona that will be at the event are: Jeanne Williams writer of The Island Harp, romanace novels; Geraldine Hernbrode, author of Inner City School Mystery; Larry Dempster, One If By Land; John Mangum, writer of Full Circle: 360°'s Of Life; Yves Johnson, In There Is No Gray In Moral Failure; Tim Heinan, aurthor of L'Immortalite, Madame Lalaurie and the Voodoo Queen; Ken Weene, Widow’s Walk and Memoirs From the Asylum; Gini Koch, Touched by an Alien; David Lee Summers, The Pirates of Sufiro, Children of the Old Stars, Heirs of the New Earth; and author Brenda Kurtz, Curse of Atlantis, and The Lord of Nightmares.

The Centennial Committee invites all to come out and meet the authors and artists. The committee has extended their invitation for local authors and artists to Oct. 12.
